Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback, who some say might run for president in 2008, courted New Hampshire conservatives yesterday, saying issues facing the country revolve around preserving marriage, protecting life and recognizing God.

Brownback said he believes marriage is an institution between a man and a woman and he praised Kansas and Oregon for passing legislation defining marriage as such.

Browback... GOP DarkHorse candidate?

I read an article somwhere that he is VERY well connected to some large Christian groups in Iowa.  This will help him gain some traction in Iowa.  His main problem area will be fundraising.

GOP-connected religious groups are going to be pressured to support the establishment's choice, which isn't a problem yet since there is no such thing.

I hope he does win the nomination since he'd be very easy to beat. Isn't he a member of that Opus Dei cult?

I'm sure you're right, but how is he any crazier than all the other religious Republican senators?

hell, even john kerry endorsed amending state constitutions to ban gay marriage even though he opposed amending the us constitution.

hate is hate.  it doesnt matter if you do it at the state level or federal level.

I like Sen. Brownback and I respect him for standing up for his beliefs like that.  I don't see him as President, but I do see him possibly somewhere in the Cabinet or future Senate Majority Whip (Minority if the Dems take control of the Senate in 2006 and/or 2008).  He might be a bit conservative for those picks, but although I've never met the man nor live in his state, I have friends from Kansas who say he is a very good Senator for their 6 EV state.  His best bet if he wants to move up would be to run for Governor of Kansas in either 2006 or 2010.

I think Brownback would be an excellent candidate for the Democrats.
