Politico has a piece on the recently reelected multimillionaire Governor of Michigan.

http://www.politico.com/story/2014/12/rick-snyder-2016-elections-detroit-michigan-113487.html

He is looking to share the story of Detroit's recovery with the nation at large. Some of the commnts tie in to 2016. Is this serious, or a shameless attempt by Politico to write about one of the few midwestern Republican Governors not involved actively running for President?

He's not a very charismatic politician. I watched the gubernatorial debates and he was pretty bad. Not good enough to be a national candidate IMO.

Snyder would be overshadowed by Romney in 2016. They're the same. They are from Michigan, wealthy, and attract the same donors.

I wouldn't mind a president Rick Snyder, as long as he doesn't go back to "total union annihilation!" mode once he gets into office. That being said, I don't really see him having the name recognition to win the primary.

Unions will never forgive him (or Walker, Pence, or Kasich).

I would only mind President Rick Snyder if he went to "total union annihilation!" mode when in office, so we are at quite a crossroads, friend.

It must be a slow news day at Politico. I can see Snyder as maybe a VP choice, but as for him running, that's not going to happen.

Yeah and that's why we have Governor's Schauer and Burke right?

I don't think he'll do it.  Like Wolverine, I could see him going for VP, but that seems unlikely.  Governor Snyder doesn't seem much interested in higher office.

Sure, and don't forget Governor FitzGerald.  That being said, if any of them run and are nominated, the unions will carpet-bomb the industrial swing states with attack ads (along with the millions in negative ads the DNC and the Democratic candidate will air spend.)

Democrats are bleeding blue collar workers. Don't be so sure.

In the South, where unions are weak and people are politically atomized. The Master Class is all-powerful in most of the South.

Why would that matter?  Union folks aren't going to vote for the Republican anyway.

An auto worker in the south has a higher standard of living than one in MI. All the new hires at the Big 3 in MI are earning pretty low wages.

Um.. unless I'm missing something you all are agreeing...

No. Wulfric doesn't want Rick Snyder to destroy unions. I do.

Maybe, but there are a lot of people who aren't union members but are nonetheless very pro-union.

The thing holding Rick Snyder back isn't his record as Governor--it's his painfully awkward demeanor.
