The case of the University of Cincinatti officer shooting the person at the traffic stop leads me to ask:

What is the point of having a campus police force?   Wouldn't it make more sense to put the resources toward the city in which the campus resides?

I know at ODU, the campus police force is considered relatively amateur compared to the city police, and the most dangerous places where students live are off campus.   Certainly in the case of Cincinnati, it seems that the university police are no where near as well trained in dealing with the general community that they are running into contact with.

If a campus is large compared to the town or city it is a part of, then I can see the point of a dedicated force, but other than that?
