http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/06/30/obama-veterans-administration-bob-mcdonald-eric-shinseki/11767125/

At VA headquarters, President Obama announced the nomination of former Procter & Gamble CEO Robert McDonald, to replace Eric Shinseki, at the scandal-scarred Department of Veterans Affairs. Despite the elimination of the filis ibuster, and McDonald gaining support from key Senators, such as Patty Murray (D-Washington) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Confirmation is no guarantee.

So, will McDonald be confirmed? (I think he will, 57-41)
Will the vote be before election day or after? (I think It will be during the lame duck session)
And which vulnerable 2014/2016 Senators, will vote against their party? (I think it'll be McCain, Kirk, and Collins)

Obama really likes appointing non-political businesspeople as his Cabinet members: Sally Jewell, Penny Pritzler, Robert McDonald etc.

So as for confirmation, he should easily be confirmed if the vote happens this year.

It seems McDonald was picked specifically because he would make for an easy confirmation, because he's really cozy with Republicans.

Anyone else read that as "Ronald McDonald?"

Makes sense. No use wasting political capital on a harder nominee especially since the administration wants to keep VA mum on the news cycle.

I think future President's cabinet should be more like the Nixon/Reagan/Obama cabinets. All of these people are far more qualified and experienced than a former Governor of Kansas or Washington. I also don't get why a sitting Senator like Ken Salazar would give up his seat and take over the Interior Department.
