I agree completely with Meeker that the national Republican strategy of hoping people care about Nancy Pelosi makes about as much sense as the current Democratic strategy to demonize Boehner. It plays well with the people making the ads, but I haven't seen any evidence of the strategy working in case studies where it was used heavily like PA-12's special

Here is a Linda McMahon ad. I think she has a very good presence on TV - she comes across as strong, calm, and reassuring, somehow, who won't be pushed around by the boys in Washington.

About as unthreatening as you can get, preempting the wwf stuff

Which accomplishes absolutely zero. I think most folks would stipulate that Feingold is a more affable chap than say, to take a name at random, Harry Reid. Folks are not voting against Feingold because he is an ahole.

What?  Dude.

- Improving likables helps.  If someone hates everything russ has ever voted for, they're not a swing voter in this race.  Similarly, if people genuinely like you and know of you, it helps no matter what election you're in.

- Appearing authentic in your beliefs (which I believe that Russ is) can only help.  What was Bush's old slogan?   "You may not agree with me but at least you know where I stand" or something?
Appearing authentic (which Feingold is imo) is in your beliefs is a legitimate brand image,

Sounds like an alternative coffee shop. Organic fair-trade beans only! Served in compostable cups!

Everything is "Green Mountain" in Vermont.  Leahy's PAC is something like "Green Mountain PAC" and the main blog in the state is called "Green Mountain Daily"

Peter Shumlin wants drug-dealing child pornographers on the street!

What went "too far" was your ad's claims, Dubie.

Meek goes "in for the kill" to steal Politico's assessment of the ad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN7ZQDqzaOg

Should ensure that Meek gets 2nd place, though I doubt it gets him to first.

Does he even have money to air it?

Yes, those millions of dollars from the primary can't ALL have been spent,

Reminds me of the Sestak ad, that is a death blow sort of ad, we'll see how it does and how many points the Dems can afford to put behind it.  I'm not sure what the math is for a Meek win, exactly, without Crist dropping out.

Okay, um, wow. Christine O'Donnell is up on the air: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxJyPsmEask&feature=player_embedded

"I'm not a witch, I'm nothing you've heard. I'm you."

...yeah.

Not the worst thing in the world to personify her and make her seem human after all these stories, even if what she was saying is awkward and flat

Are we watching the same commercial? She doesn't come across as human in that ad at all.

Okay, rewatching, it's a bit creepy

Buuuuuuuut, there are some smart notes to the ad.  Like note the beginning hook, "I'm not a witch" -- that's both an attention grabber [important] and a strawman for her to defeat in the next 25 seconds.  That's professional work and thought process.  They know some people have heard "Christine O'Donnell" and "witch" in the same sentence, so they can victimize her by pretending that she's currently being called a witch.

She's relatively likable on TV, she comes across much more affable than a lot of other mainstream politicians this cycle, even though she says some crazy things.  The "I'm one of you" catchphrase is, eh, interesting, but they worked that message into the ad.

There is not an ounce of substance in the ad. It's the worst of nothing but meaningless platitudes.

What do you think is a bigger decision for non-political junkies?  Buying a car or voting?

And, have you seen serious car corporations invest millions of dollars into car ads that are nothing but meaningless platitudes?  Do you think Crest wins over Colgate consumers through superior argument or something?  These are television ads here.

I'm not saying the ad is good, because it's not, but y'all have to have the right angle as to why it's bad.
