8.5% is the federal rate, in practice, the federal rate by itself is not hugely meaningful as most tax collection happens at the Cantonal level.
Federal + cantonal rates vary from about 12% in the tax haven cantons like Zug, Schwyz and Nidwald up to 22-24% in the left leaning ones like Neuchatel and Geneva.
