I heard someone describe Attila the Hun as really conservative in his politics. What do you think? Is the description accurate, inaccurate, too simplistic, or something else? If you had to describe Attila the Hun, in terms of political ideology, how would you do it?

imo he was more socially conservative in his dealing with the Western Roman Empire, and more fiscally conservative in his dealing with the Eastern Roman Empire Smiley

No, no, you got it wrong. You see, Kelly Loeffler is more conservative than Attila the Hun. Attila is a self-hating RINO compared to her.

IIRC he attacked the East for money (entrepreneurship, fiscally conservative) but he attacked the West because he got rejected by a local princess (upholding traditional marriage, socially conservative). I might be misremembering though.

Yes, that's the amount of thought I've put into this meme post.

Well, that's a lot more thought than I expected.

I assumed you had just copied straight the Ukraine meme but accidentally flipped the cardinal directions.

Such is the world we live in, that if I now google "Attila", the German Corona sceptic and right wing extremist Attila Hildmann actually comes above Attila the Hun.

That doesn't strictly speaking answer the question. But I feel it is a pretty depressing inditement of the year 2021 that the most famous Attila is no longer one of the key figures in the destruction of the Roman empire, but a vegan cook who hates masks and jews.

If I had my way, the most famous Attila would be the Hungarian poet Attila Jószef.

In the same way that the name "Sargon of Akkad" is now associated with a YouTube far right celeb.

Fwiw Attila did align with the Bagaudae (landless peasants turned into 'revolutionary' brigands against the nobility) when necessary, so you could imagine seeing him as a great leveller from the relatively egalitarian world of the steppe. Would be definitely a stretch though; the Hunnic empire was essentially a parasitic force that extracted the surplus from the Romans and Germans alike, and not for egalitarian goals.
