Columbus City Councilman Michael Stinziano officially in for Franklin County Auditor. Turns out Democrats haven't had the Auditor's office in decades. Mingo's got a big war chest, but Stinziano's much more likely to take out Mingo than Klein and O'Brien.

Klein is a phenomenal candidate (sadly he couldn’t beat Ron “literally hates puppies” O’Brien, but that was b/c of the Green Party nominee who literally runs specifically to try and cost Dems local races) and one of our few major rising-stars, but I think he’s (rightly) focusing right now on the job he was just elected to do Tongue  I think Mike Schadek (who is a really good guy btw, hope we here more from Schadek in the future) would have beaten Mingo had 2014 not been...well...2014.  Plus, Mingo has been on borrowed time for a few cycles now, is notoriously corrupt, and has some serious skeletons in his closet even beyond what’s been reported in the Dispatch (btw, the sexual harassment should hurt Mingo more in the curren environment).  All of which is to say Stinziano has probably got this.

Klein's definitely a rising star, and he'll be back. I know some people are mad that Pfeiffer's right-hand man, who was going to run for City Attorney when Pfeiffer stepped down was basically pushed aside. I forget his name right now, but Klein's liable to run for County Prosecutor again in 2020, so hopefully, this other guy can make a comeback.

And yeah, no doubt, Stinziano's favored, especially in this environment, but Democrats haven't won the Franklin County Auditor's office since 1974! Still, I'm taking nothing for granted.

Kucinich has dropped yellow from his logo after like 12 hours lmao:

In all honesty this is the most distinctive logo I've seen for a recent campaign. Nice to break up the monotonous block letters

Sad that the Honorable Nina Turner wasn't picked as Kucinich's running mate.
She’d actually be a good pick but Atlas would go crazy if they won the nomination.

No, she'd be awful. We'd never win back the Governorship with Nina.

Unrelated: Pillich has chosen her running mate, Marion Mayor Scott Schertzer, who is also President of the Ohio Municipal League. Marion is a town of 36,000 about an hour north of Columbus is an otherwise very Republican county.

OH-Gov is now Lean D

Cordray/Sutton 2018!

I wish. A Democratic governor paves the way for Brown 2020.

This would be proof that Jesus still loves us.

Does Kucinich stand a chance against Cordray? He at least has the name recognition and can appeal to the disenfranchised WWC

Tara Samples picked as Kucinich running mate

She seems like a good, solid choice.

I hope some junior staffer is given the fun job of doing opposition research on Kucinich.

Surely with his Trumpism he'll be DOA for the primaries right?

No one in Ohio likes Dennis Kucinich, especially not his former constituents who rejected him handily given the much better choice of Marcy Kaptur. People remember his role in killing commuter rail.

I doubt 90% of people outside the Cleveland area even remember Kucinich.

At this point, Drew Carey should run for Governor on the Libertarian line. He'd probably have the money to fight Husted in court for ballot access.

Yes. Not sure how that happened. On topic: Schiavoni's running mate, who serves on the state board of education, is attacking Cordray for taking money from Bill Lager in the wake of ECOT's closure.

So, some odd stuff.

1) The Cuyahoga County Democratic Party isn’t endorsing State Senate Minority Leader in his primary, where he is being faced by a Black DUMO who doesn’t support SSM.
2) The Butler County GOP has, once again, fielded a credible primary challenger against Wes Rutherford.
3) Rep. Bill Seitz and Sen. Huffman are in hot water after making sexually charged and graphic jokes at an employees going away party, just weeks after major sexual misconduct training at the state house.

Businesssmam Neil Patel of Westerville is going to challenge Rob Richardson in the Democratic primary for Treasurer. I think this is  same Neil Patel who challenged Senator Kris Jordan in 2010 and 2014. If it is, he may not be awful, since he went from getting 30% of the vote in 2010 to getting 40% in 2014, which was a much worse year in Ohio.

On paper, Richardson and Patel are equally qualified — one is a failed Myoral candidate, the other a failed candidate for the State Senate — but Richardson appears to be better for a few reasons.

1: He’s probably the only Black candidate on the slate, since only Kucinich chose a Black running mate.
2: He’s probably the only southwestern candidate, since it’s exceedingly unlikely Pillich wins the primary.
3: He’s got a strong statewide network with labor organizations, which will be of real value since Republicans are pushing Right to Work again.
4: He was recruited by ODP Chair David Pepper, and seems well tapped into Pepper’s donor network, which is one of Pepper’s admittedly few strengths.

I’ve also seen Richardson in person at this point, and he’s a very vibrant and engaging speaker.

Patel is awful (not a bad guy, just hopeless as a candidate).
