Maybe I'm wrong, but Boston seems to be very overrated as a "liberal city". There is still a large number of Reagan Democrats there.

True enough. Lots of "socially conservative" (don't really like that term") white Democrats there.

I've always regarded the East Coast as being "liberal" in an old-fashioned, pragmatic, New Deal sort of sense, in contrast to the rather obnoxious, feel-good "liberalism" of the West Coast. Tongue
