Well, I think renaming it should be Cheese's decision, no?

Since I'm suppouse to study for my finals, I made some maps...

Left-Right result for Sweden's 29 constituencies' since 1973. (First unicameral general election)

Centre-right = M + C + Fp (+ Kd)
Centre-left = S + V (+ Mp)

The 1994 map gives me nightmares. Tongue

Very interesting! Smiley Some day I'm going to study Swedish politics in greater detail, that's really fascinating!

BTW, do the constituencies correspond to counties? Or portions of counties? Or groups of counties? Or is there no relationship at all?

And he's [Fälldin] still alive. I met two of his grandkids at the Centre Youth Congress. ^^

Have Fälldin made any statements on what he thinks of the Centre Party of today (certainly much more right-wing than in his time)? And what is the feeling amongst older Centre members in general about the current direction of the party?

Nope, he's not made any statements about the party for a decade as far as I'm aware off. But he's very old and frail. Older Centre Party members have not been happy about the party's direction, but that's a given.

BTW, do the constituencies correspond to counties? Or portions of counties? Or groups of counties? Or is there no relationship at all?

They correspond to the counties, but the three most populus counties (Stockholm, Västra Götaland, and Skåne) are split into smaller constituencies.

Ah, I see. Makes sense.

Lower taxes vs more money to welfere: (by SIFO)

82% - More money to the welfere system is more important
14% - Lower taxes is more important
4% - Not sure/No oppinion

Smartest people in the world.

It surely would strike as weird timing if Sweden joins the NATO right after having recognized Palestine. Tongue

The Sweden Democrats are rising fast in the polls: 20% in YouGov and 22% in Sentio. Not far behind S and M.

Fuck.

The only way to stop them is to increase immigration levels. What do you think of my plan?

That sound like something the mainstream Swedish parties would suggest.

I assume the joke is that this is what the Swedish government actually did when SD first got into parliament.

Interestingly, apart from 1998 when they increased their vote total by 50% they've been at least doubling their votes in every election they've run in since the party foundation in 1988. Pretty remarkable.

Well, that will stop before the end of the decade, I doubt they'll get 52% in the 2022 election.

Nothing would surprise me at this point.

With or without the immigrants, I doubt any European will ever come to Sweden and think "gee, what a messy country!" Tongue

I incidentally know a Sweden Democrat who is a supporter of the SDU guys and who told me I was "on his list" once he found out about my Jewish heritage.

Did you turn him over to the police?

If the current polling numbers hold, the next elections will precipitate Sweden into a whole new era of its politics - and a rather terrifying one.

I personally find it hilarious that the Swedish government we usual see as rather naive have been so good at a Machiavellian power play to maximise their political power after what in reality was a rather brutal defeat of them last election. The Swedish centre-right on the other hand have shown themselves political incompetent.

Have their economic policies since 2014 actually pushed Sweden to the left? Is there any major progressive reform they got to enact?

OK, but why should anyone care if the SDs got the policies they wanted, if said policies are more or less the same the Alliance would have enacted anyway?
