Tfw Biden has to be pushed to even go through the motions of holding the police to account by a crank mayor who just backed a hard right primary challenge to Abbott.

It's good that this is happening, but the White House has offered little leadership in the aftermath of this tragedy.

Would this have happened under a Trump Admin? I doubt.

Aww, now we have a police thread without bronz' priceless insights.

Unless real consequences result I'll chalk this up to more political theater on the part of the Biden Administration.

Fire every single one of them and rebuild it completely from scratch.

When I talk about funding the police more than we currently do I don't mean paying dumb palookas with badges even more to keep being dumb palookas with badges. I mean paying more to attract better and more talented people, and to enable better training.

Trump launched an investigation into the killing of George Floyd, which in my opinion was honestly not as big of a deal as this, at least in terms of rarity/lives lost.

Aren't these the kind of decisions made by lower ranking Justice Department officials are less partisan or just bureaucrats?

Generally, but they are always subject to word from on high. And of course Trump and his cronies never blink twice at expressly interfering and pressuring departments like justice, the post office, Etc in terms of trying to find political advantage for themselves and allies.

It would be very unwise if we had a federal investigation that presupposes guilt, but still, if the department was acting on best of information, they should have nothing to hide and nothing to fear from this investigation.

It could happen if Trump thought that it could help him. As of now no one is defending the Uvalde police department

Despite the Uvalde PD saying that it hadn't been clear whether or not kids were still alive as they waited for 77 minutes, audio of 911 dispatch operators informing them of this recently emerged.

Now, as a result of the head of the Texas Dept. Of Public Safety criticising the local commander's decisions, they've decided to drop the mask:

Evidently, they weren't happy with the prospect of ending even one commander's career at Uvalde PD. Zero accountability culture.

Edit: the commander in question is set to join the city council anyway, so they're resisting to protect his reputation, not even his job.

Why don't they also investigate their own agents while they're at it? This is like appointing Ted Bundy to prosecute Jeffrey Dahmer.

What ?

How can this story get any more weirder than it is already ?

Like what is happening ? Who screwed up ? Who did not ?
