Former Vice President Walter Mondale, who did not seek 1984 nomination (which went instead to Gary Hart, who lost in an epic landslide, winning only 7 ev from D.C. and RI), captured 1988 nod and selects 41-year ofl Governor Bill Clinton of Arkansas as hus running-mate.

Meanwhile, on the Republican side, in an massive upset, teleevangelist Pat Robertson won primaries over Vice President George H. W. Bush and Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole, seleting in order to balance the ticket, former Governor Lamar Alexander of Tennessee for his running-mate.

Mad as hell and scared with teleevangelist as GOP nominee, Bush and Dole made unlikely alliance and run together under Independent Republican Banner, with full Reagan's White House backing.

Meanwhile, Jesse Jackson announced his own insurgent "Progressive" bid with Ohio Congressman (in his universe since 1983) Dennis Kucinich.
