Unrecognizable description of the person representing my former district. This is someone who consistently avoids anything but controlled media, rarely does an unscripted interview, and has always kept herself completely inaccessible to anyone even vaguely hostile. This is someone who has told naked lies and indulged in cheap name-calling against every electoral opponent whom she has faced.

The narrative of a sudden conversion of this formerly decent person to the "Trump cult" is such transparent bullsh**t. Maybe this really is how others in elite circles once perceived her - fundraising was one of her chief talents, so that makes enough sense, she was good at flattering a certain sensibility - but that's just a testament to their blindness.

The main lesson of this story is that those telling it live in a circlejerk and want you to know that Stefanik is no longer a welcome member of the club.

You obviously have better perspective than I do as her constituent, but I definitively viewed her as "one of the good ones" until 2020. It's certainly possible she was always this bad and I got fooled by phony positive coverage - it's not like I was doing my own careful research

Stefanik is obviously a horrible Congressperson and a bad person. It's really a miracle Cheney is somehow worse!

I like that she's being consistent. It also makes sense considering most victims of right-wing cancel culture have been women: Ellen DeGeneres, Joycelyn Elders, Janet Jackson, the Dixie Chicks and many more... Whatever you think of Liz Cheney, she's also being cancelled.

I think it's a mistake to talk about this as being about loyalty to Trump.

It's about the proposition that the GOP can nullify elections. Similar to how after Nixon, they decided no GOP president should ever be allowed to face impeachment, after Trump they have decided that no Republican president should be allowed to lose elections again.

Another reminder that the Republican Party is an authoritarian cult of personality. Their message couldn’t be louder to anyone who considers themselves a “moderate” or “old school” Republican - they don’t want you! Stop voting for them!

Not entirely sure if people realize this, but Cheney was not helping the anti-Trump cause at all (and neither are 80-90% of Never Trumpers). For that reason alone, I genuinely can't bring myself to care.

Because too many of the Trumpists keep saying it *was* stolen.  This needs to be continually countered.

Because the majority of Republicans believe it was stolen.

I find it hillarious  that Trumpists think someone who voted with Trump 93% of the time is a traitor but someone who voted with Trump 78% of the time is a Trumpist .

Anyway I don’t care about this , and have no sympathy for Liz

That was the past. Stefanik is now 100%, and that's all that matters

Apparently, Chip Roy is attacking her for not being conservative enough. But it's clear that she has the support of the establishment and most of the caucus, and I expect her to take the Conference Chairmanship without much difficulty.

Glorious! Another neocon anti-Trump has bitten the dust. The Republican party stands with Trump, not the outdated Bush wing.

"with Trump" lmao. A lot of "Trump's" agenda wasn't even closely Trumpian. As I said many times, he'll got forced into Cocaine Mitch's arms because of Russia Hoax and its impeachment threat.

Though, Stefanik is neocon, too, but, perhaps, not as crazy as Cheney... Everyone's better than Cheney in that matter, hehe. And, at least, she voted for Trump's $2000, even though it was DOA, hehe.

Surely they'll take action against Valadao now for supporting impeachment.

I'm not holding my breath.

Did Valadao ever release a statement about his impeachment vote? To me, it seems like he has remained quiet about it-which may be precisely why the Party won't move against him.

He did: https://valadao.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=37

But at the same time, he's not in leadership and represents a blue-leaning district, so people might be willing to give him more of a pass on his votes.

I agree. Valadao is the only Republican who can win that district, so that gives him more leeway, and will probably help him win reelection next year.
