I think it's a pretty obvious play to win back white evangelicals from Cruz.  They seem to be the only major demographic in this country that "cares" about Africa.

Combined with his trip to the Middle East I can't tell if Carson is running for president or taking a public vacation.

My favorite part of the 2012 GOP primary race was when the Gingrich campaign had no money, yet he used campaign funds to go to Hawaii for a 3-day "campaign trip" with his wife that happened to coincide with their anniversary:

Carson is getting out of town and allowing his campaign / ponzi scheme / publicity stunt to glide in to a nice, smooth landing before he formally withdraws and goes back to speaking fees and book tours, with his reputation intact, even enhanced, among his suckers fans.

He's still in double digits nationally. Why drop out? Heck, Sabato still considers him a frontrunner.

His campaign is literally a con scheme.

Carson sounds better when he's described to you: a renowned neurosurgeon ready to throw red meat to the base. When you actually listen to him, you either fall asleep or realize the man is an idiot savant.

He's cancelling his trip both to Africa and the Middle East citing "security concerns."
