While I'm sure Clinton would still win thanks to the recession, would the absence of Clarence Thomas change the map?

He was the most left-wing member of the court and got replaced with the most right-wing member of the court. But his health was declining, and he only barely made it to the Clinton administration.

He didn’t really get replaced with the most right-wing member of the court unless you forgot Scalia.

In my opinion, if anything Thurgood Marshall not retiring would have helped President Bush, at least if it affected the fractured – even with one Democratic appointee and that unusually conservative and made over three decades previously – ruling in Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
