This is plausible. I think Bel Edwards would do about as well as Bill Clinton did in the South, probably winning back parts of Appalachia and historically Democratic parts of states like Tennessee and Alabama.

Big difference between winning it in a governor's race and winning it in a presidential race

If he managed to get through the Democratic primary without changing any of his views, he'd probably win Louisiana vs. an unpopular Trump.
