if we flashback to 1864, didn't McCllean do the same thing?

Yes, but 150 years in the past, a bit of a far precedent.

I half wish Grassr00ts chose Obama so we could start, lol.

OBAMA SPEECH AT OFFICIAL RE-ELECTION KICKOFF
-Downtown St. Louis-

Today Obama spoke to thousands of supporters at his announcement rally for his second term as president. The young African American president is very popular among Democrats, but has major opposition from the republican party this election.

Obama's speech addressed his accomplishments as president, and his plan for his second term, including lowering taxes for the middle and lower class, lowering gas prices, standing ground on the affordable care act, and other liberal policies he hopes to implement in a second term.

He also addressed his opposition from fellow democrat Hillary Clinton, former first lady and senator from New York. He stated that she was a fellow democrat, and expressed his disappointment stating that she was "...preparing to divide us, democrats of America, against each other".

Obama and his campaign are very hopeful that they can win the primaries and the general, but polling has yet to come in.

To be honest from me personally, let me tell you two things.

1. I'm playing as someone who I politically disagree with on many levels. (I know his policies and talk though).

2. I'm a bit new to political role-play, but I can get used to it.

Don't be surprised if I slip up a bit, or am occasionally not on time with my posts. Smiley

How fast paced are the debates?

And when are each of them exactly?

As Obama i'm dropping out.

1. I don't have much time for Obama, and I feel strange playing as him.
2. I want to give a lot of these other players (especially the dem players) a good and equal chance at the presidency in the game.

Sorry people, but I have to.

I will have a concession speech later today.

GRASSROOT'S 2012 REPUBLICAN PRIMARY PREDICTION - January 2012

I predict based on polling and past elections that:

39% chance of Chris Christie winning nomination.
33% Chance of Ernie Fletcher winning nomination.
27% Chance of Walter Jones winning nomination.
~15%~ Chance of Ron Paul winning nomination.

Kentucky for Christie? Ron Paul has a better chance, despite low approval in Kentucky, Ernie has always has very high approval among Republicans in Kentucky

Kentucky comes later in the year and this map demonstrates what would happen if Christie was the apparent nominee for most of the year.

IDK honestly, Kentucky usually votes for the frontrunner so I threw it in for Christie without a very extensive research project in the political views of republicans in Kentucky.

If you turn out to be the frontrunner, Kentucky will definitely be in your grab-bag. Its Fletcher's home state, anyway.

How many states do you think Biden will win on the Democratic side?

I am not an expert on Democratic primaries like I am on Republican primaries, but I will give you this.

Polls show Clinton leading very heavily in New Hampshire. But after that, most states, if played right, are winnable for Biden. With the addition of Feingold supporters (who are obviously running to Biden via endorsement), and some good campaigning and debate performances, Biden can be tied with or leading Hillary in more than enough states to win the nomination.

For Hillary, she has a firm grip on NH, and if she wants to win the nomination she will have to keep a grip on a bunch of states she is currently winning in via good campaigning and good debate performances. Her toughest challenges are Biden himself and the progressive onslaught she is about to face.

50% chance of Clinton winning nomination.
48% chance of Biden winning nomination.

I wonder who's going to win the minority vote? I feel like it could be Carolla but the whole "America First" thing may be a little too much for minorities to go for him. Maybe Fletcher or Ron, I don't think it'd be Christie or Walter though.

I think Christie will lead with the latino community. I think Fletcher will lead with the black community but unfortunately for Fletcher, the black community doesn't represent that many people in the GOP.

Right now, Carolla isn't in a good spot. To at least get a good chunk of traction, you will have to appeal to the working class midwestern family. The type of people that would support Trump in 2016, the people that want outsiders and are fed up with politics-as-usual, view you with good favorability, so use that to your advantage.

Well I think his economic populist message could help in the rust belt.

Correct. As I said, the populist base is ripe for the picking.

I think this would sound about right for the 2012 Democratic Primary if Joe Biden just continues on his messaging while exposing Clinton's many flaws little by little every month and every debate:

40% for Clinton Nomination
35% for Biden Nomination

Look at the dem polling for NH. New Hampshire is a Clinton grab.

Grassroots R primary prediction 1.5:

For Christie to maintain his lead, he will have to campaign hard to keep his own current states.

For Jones, he has to campaign hard in the east coast, southern, and western states with Tea Party ties ripe for picking.

For Fletcher, he has to go after the midwestern and southern states, as well as Utah and Idaho, in which he has conservative roots in.

For Paul, campaign hard for libertarian and moderate voters, while making swift sweeps at conservative states.

Good VP's for the R candidates.

Christie: Jeb Bush, Giuliani, Huckabee, Romney, maybe Bachman to balance the scales.

Jones: Bachman, Rand Paul, Palin, or a good establishment politician to balance the scales of the ticket.

Fletcher: Rob Portman, Rubio, Pence, Huckabee, Thompson, or a Giuliani to balance the scales.

Gingrich is good for all of these candidates, as he is an all around Reagan conservative.

Ernie Fletcher vs. Generic Democrat
281-257
PV goes to Fletcher by 1 point.

Walter Jones vs. Generic Democrat
260-278
PV goes to Democrat by .2%

For Christie, it really depends on the Democratic nominee, wether it's Biden or Clinton. If it's Biden, then most likely Biden will win. If it's Clinton, then Christie will most likely win.

The game's still alive, I've just been rather depressed these past few days and the sudden mood swings can make it hard to concentrate to update the game. I'll give it a try within an hour or so.

Understood. Thank you.

Right, the turn is up. The only thing I can't do is a debate, because I've seriously ran out of ideas.

If someone outside the game would "host" the debate by offering the questions for both parties I would be grateful, as I would just have to grade the performances.

Maybe a Republican candidate can "host" the Democratic debates, and either Dkrol or I could "host" the Republican debates?

Not a bad idea. I'll give it 24 hours for a volunteer for debates, if not, I'll ask players (I don't think myself it would be conflict of interest, it's not like I'd allow too loaded questions.

I would be able to host a debate today for you if you would like.

Democrats or Republicans (just asking)?

I can do the Republicans, maybe I can do the Democrats as well if I have time.
