Why Oman & Malaysia? I haven't heard of anything special happening there. Tongue

I move to strike section 2. Mind you that I'm leaning towards Nay on the final vote anyway. Wink

Some things are simple, like free trade is good.

I will be voting against this bill

Since you love to think in terms of power, I'll put it this way:

Free trade is a useful tool internationally. Should we be compromising that by offering free trade to everyone, whether they like us or not?

I'm not fully decided on it for that reason. As great as unconditional free trade is, I'm hesitant to reward the sworn enemies of liberty. Undecided

However, in your attempt to hurt the sworn enemies of liberty, you hurt yourself even more in the process. By limiting free trade between countries, you guarentee that both countries have fewer resources and are more miserable than they otherwise would be.

I guess if we get their money, it's all the same in the end. Smiley

Darn it. I should have just made the motion rather than saying I would. Tongue

Nay.  Just mark me down as a permanent anti protectionist vote, no matter in what form the beast may appear.

You're going to love my newest bill then. Tongue

Why did I follow that spur-of-the-moment mood and go for this sillee cloture motion?

Good question. Given that there are only three fiscal conservatives in the current Senate, it's not as if this bill has any chance of failing or having either provision struck.

Eh - remember Al's bill last time around? Me n him were the only people to vote for it. But cloture is just holding things up.

Doesn't mean that everyone else is fiscally ultra-liberal. What I mean is that DWTL, Torie, & I are the only ones likely to see the benefit of unconditional free trade.

I want to have some of your mescaline, in that case. Smiley

Shipping it to Germany might be expensive. Wink

Aye. At least we can keep free trade with Malaysia, rather than losing it with both.
