I'd laugh in their face if they tried a stunt like that on me...
Yeah... if my employer ever fires me, I won't be taking it very well. It takes a LOT to get fired from there (they just recently fired a guy for his 22nd tardy). I've never had a no call/no show, and I've called off once my entire 5 years there (my brakes died while I was out of town).

Not exactly, but sector, but I'm pretty high up the chain, there's quite a bit of trust 'if we pay you xxxx then it's expected that' I'll do what needs to be done
