Wasn't Mattis supposed to be the sane one? Those who think that the political situation in this country would be fine if Trump wasn't President are fools.

I'm slowly coming around to agree with this. That casting Trump as being orders of magnitude worse than those he's surrounded himself with is just wishful thinking. Not that he isn't awful, because he is. He's only a symptom. The many dysfunctions he represents in the nation, government and GOP will remain even if he leaves office.
