Seems in recent years that Independent Governors don't stay Independent for very long.

I have to wonder if he'll switch back to being Republican at some point.

I doubt Walker will stay an Independent for his entire term.

But yeah, Alaska Dems at least have a (atlas) Red LG.

I'm confused about this trope about Alaska Governors not staying independent. Can someone tell me where that came from? Which governors, and what happened?

It's not a trope exclusively shared by Alaskan Governors, but generally third party/Independent Governors don't stay as such. Lincoln Chaffee is an example of that.

IIRC, there was some sort of coalition in the State Legislature between the Republicans and Democrats.

I remember hearing that it made alot of conservatives mad.
