Trump's not wrong for rescinding the invitation, and Steph Curry, whom I normally think highly of, was wrong in his response.  As are the rest of the Warriors. If I were President and someone responded to me as Curry did, I wouldn't

This was a chance for an audience with the man who, like it or not, is President.  Trump listens to all sorts of people privately, and is far from fixed in his thinking.  In private with Trump, Curry (probably the most articulate Warrior) and others could discuss their concerns privately, without the public posturing and trash talk.  Instead, Curry publicly brushes off Trump.  If Curry has any people skills, he should have known that this wouldn't be received favorably, and he shouldn't have been surprised.

That being said, if I were President, I would have rescinded the invitation quietly, with minimal publicity and without giving a reason.  Trump's biggest failing as President is that he doesn't know when to stop being combative.  He's not wrong here, and he's not wrong on most things, IMO, but he's a case of the problem being not what he says, but how he says it.  I don't blame Trump entirely for the situation, but he is, after all, the President.  It's incumbent on the President to be the "bigger man" in situations like this.

And he never should have announced this at one of his rallies.  Trump's not wrong about law and order IMO, but the issues of racial disparities in criminal justice are real and shouldn't just be blown off.  If BLM is full of crap (and I believe they are on a number of issues, but not all), Trump ought to be willing to make the case for this in a reasoned manner and build consensus on this.  He made a deal with Pelosi and Schumer on the debt ceiling; why can't he at least come up with a more constructive dialogue on the issues Curry and these athletes are raising?

Trump supporters do not get that many people do not want to be associated with someone like Trump. He's angry, hateful and mean, which are all things most people choose to avoid. We aren't talking about a normal President, we are talking about Trump.
Many professional athletes are angry, hateful and mean.

That being said, I do expect more of our President.

Lest we forget, President Obama readily continued and follow through the invite of Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins despite the fact their goalie and de facto captain ( notwithstanding Chara) who is a first-rate tea partier, not to mention a first-rate a******, publicly refused the invitation because of socialism, Etc.

Trump of course does not have 1/10 of the class for patience for people who dare criticize him.

The Bruins' goalie, Tim Thomas, was wrong for this.  Obama was our President at the time, and an invitation to the White House is an honor.  Acknowledging a Presidential invitation as an honor is not, and has never been (at least until recently) an act viewed as co-signing policies one disagrees with.

This, however, was one player.  The Warriors have numerous players on board with this.  And numerous players are putting pressure on others to boycott Trump; Thomas, in error that he was, acted on his own and wasn't trying to be part of some sort of movement.

Obama had class.  Trump only knows one mode:  Combative.  I'm waiting for him to grow in office, but he always regresses right when I think growth is happening.  And, yes, this is getting to be an issue with me.

So beautiful! Maybe Clemson and Trump was better than Bama and Clinton after all. God always seems to know better than me.

This.

I do think that if some of these hotheads attended a WH ceremony and used it to advance their issue, Trump might actually listen.
