Key sentence: "Bill Allen, former chief executive of oil services company VECO, testified that he spent more than $400,000 to bribe state legislators and for work at Stevens' house in the ski resort town of Girdwood."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/09/14/AR2007091401477.html

Could corruption topple the once mighty political career of Senator Ted Stevens, a man affectionately dubbed "Uncle Ted" by his constituents?

This news could push popular Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich (D) into this race.

Hooray to throwing crazy old farts out of the Senate.  I hope he resigns or loses.  He's way too old to be in the Senate anyways.  Seriously people you only have to be 30 to get in and yet the average age of a US Senator is 62 and there isn't a single Senator under the age of 40.  In fact the number of Senators who are over 70 is more than twice the number who are under 50.  What the heck is that about?  I really think we need to have age caps on being in Congress.  If you can't be a Congressman at 18 you shouldn't be able to be one at 80 either.

I've proposed before that Senators and Representatives not be able to run for reelection once they hit age 70. Some federal judges have mandatory retirement ages FTR.

Let's hope that Stevens gets run out of the senate and that someone gets to use the "series of tubes" quote in an ad against him

I hope that Stevens runs and loses, just so he can fully get the kick in the face he deserves.

Not to sound vindictive or anything. Smiley

HRC, how is Lautenberg "crazy"? Has he made any bizzare comments about tubes and the internet?  Another unwarranted assertion disproved.  Next...

Meh. He's not a pork-barreling corrupt fool. I'll vote against him in the primary, but the odds of the NJ GOP putting up a candidate I'd support are close to nil.

He may not be corrupt, but he can pork-barrel with the best of them.  His Superfund Act was little more than a gigantic payday for cleaning up toxic sites in the Garden State—not that I'm complaining.

Well, in that sense every Senator is a pork-barreler. I'm talking about the Stevens-Byrd sense of the term.

At least Tom Coburn opposes pork barrel politics.

Its not surprising that Inouye is there either.  He and Stevens are BFF.  IMO they both need to go since it is obvious they are doing nothing but wasting taxpayer money.
