OK, UCF has made me a believer.  That was an impressive second half.

Okay.

It's official. UCF deserves to be in the playoff, regardless of what happens/happened to everyone else (Alabama rallied to win, while Oklahoma won and Clemson/ Ohio State should win, plus Notre Dame has already locked up their spot).

I think UCF can beat Oklahoma/Ohio State/Notre Dame...but they would get flattened by Alabama.

Oh yeah.. beating an 8-4 team definitely proves they can beat one of the top 4!

If both Ohio State and Clemson lose tonight, then I could see the case for UCF in the playoff (the other 3 being Alabama, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma).  But it wouldn't be a slam dunk.

That situation is about the only one I could see UCF even getting consideration. If that happened, I strongly believe the committee would still go with Clemson.

Unfortunately for UCF, Clemson isn't losing. In fact, they're already up 14-3.

Good. UCF is not one of the 4 best teams.

So I’m pretty sure the committee rankings will be:

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Notre Dame
4. Oklahoma

I’m a believer in Georgia now however. I usually don’t agree with Kirk Herbstreit but I believe he’s completely right. Georgia may have 2 losses but they are one of the best 4 teams in the country.

Switch the seeding of Clemson and Notre Dame and I think you have it correct.

100 percent. A rematch and a third southern team would be overkill.

538 projects Alabama and Clemson as locks, with a close 3-way race for the other two spots between Oklahoma (72%), Ohio State (66%), and Notre Dame (61%).

This is an area 538 doesn't know what they're talking about. There is no scenario where an undefeated Notre Dame is left out.

Exactly what I expected, even if I don't agree with it.

Ok, one question I have about the committee selection process:  are the seeds placed at certain bowls prior to the teams being known?  For example, does the 1-vs-4 matchup have to be the Orange Bowl due to contractual terms, or could the committee has sent Bama and OU to the Cotton?

For purely $$$ reasons (which is really what the playoff is all about), Dallas is a way better site for the Bama-OU matchup and sending Clemson-ND to the Orange would actually preserve the pre-playoff tie-ins associated with that game.

I believe they did that because Dallas is closer to Norman than Tuscaloosa, and the 1 seed is always at the location closer to their home than the 4 seed, so they're playing in Miami.

Alabama selected to the play in the Orange Bowl. I'm sure they found out who'd they be playing when the chair called the AD to confirm location.

This isn't part of the contest, but I think the national championship game will be Notre Dame vs Alabama, with Alabama winning it all again.

I'll bite on my playoff predictions:

Semifinals:

Oklahoma 60, Alabama 57 (4OT)

Clemson 27, Notre Dame 24

Finals:

Clemson 55, Oklahoma 52 (3OT)

Awful lot of points for the Alabama and Clemson defenses.

Oklahoma's offense is that good.

Seriously though, I can also see Oklahoma losing to Alabama by the same scoreline.
