If this is accurate then how come so many of the Democrats choices are doing so poorly? Something tells me they either just told the pollster what they thought they wanted to hear or else this just isn't a very good sample.

It seems like the Democrats just put on NBC and leave it there.

Meanwhile, Republicans love the CBS. Which isn't surprising, considering how skewed towards old people that network's programming is.

I think this is how far each show deviates from the mean in terms of the political party demographic, rather than how many Democrats/Republicans watch each show.  If it were the latter, the two lists would probably be the same but with a few shows switched.

I'm going to assume this has some laughably bad statistics behind it, but I don't care enough to read into it more... Tongue

I watch TBBT from the Republican side, and Dexter & 30 Rock from the Democratic side. Hmm...

What was the methodology used here?  Are they using actual Nielsen rating data, or similar data, to actually measure what people watch?  Or are they just asking people to rate their opinions of each show, (Like, "How would you rate the Glenn Beck show on a scale of 1 to 100?"), which wouldn't necessarily tell you what people are actually watching.

Maybe it just means that Dems claim to like the critically acclaimed stuff because they think they're supposed to.  Until we know what the numbers mean, or how this was done, we have no way to interpret it.

I'm surprised V is so popular with Republicans. Sci-fi has always struck me as appealing to a left-leaning crowd. Similarly Friday Night Lights seems like it would attract a more conservative crowd.

I like 5 shows on the Republican list (The Amazing Race, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, Survivor, and HIMYM) and 2 shows on the Democratic list (30 Rock and Friday Night Lights).

You weren't aware of the criticisms that V is a conservative-leaning, Obama-bashing show? After all, it's about evil aliens who (pretend to) bring hope, change, and free health-care for everyone.

As for that list itself... glad to know that I'm predominantly a Democrat (Mad Men, Dexter, Breaking Bad). Tongue

That is even more idiotic than Gully's overanalysis of 300 and Forrest Gump, especially as it's a remake of a miniseries from the 80s.

You'd be surprised how many conservative Trekkies there are, despite the fact that the good guys (the Federation) are more or less communists.

I would've thought more Republicans watch SVU.

Tell me about it. I think I watch it enough to make up for the others though.

No, people don't, which is unfortunate because it has the best shows out of the networks.

Republicans watch much better shows according to that list, in my opinion. The only Democratic show I actually like on there is Community, whereas the Republicans have the Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, and the Amazing Race. Republicans clearly win this one. Granted, a lot of the shows on both sides are crap. Never seen a lot of the Democratic shows, though, so I probably shouldn't judge. Never seen Mad Men, Dexter, Damages, The Good Wife, 90210, Private Practice, Brothers & Sisters, or Law and Order SVU.

It is nowhere near as funny as it used to be. Parks and Recreation is boring, and The Office and 30 Rock are not as good as they used to be. The only good thing they have on Thursdays is Community.

"Communist" isn't really accurate (there's no state religion or any suppression of thought, there are free and honest elections, etc) but you're roughly correct in that the Federation strongly resembles Utopian Socialism.

Maybe, you can't really tell from this.  Again, no one has explained what the methodology here is, what the #s quoted actually mean, whether this is really a list of most watched using actual Nielsen data, or just people telling you on the phone which shows they like or what.  I don't know why anyone would take this seriously, if you don't know how this study was done.

Oh I don't take the list seriously, its just that  the republican list has one cable show and the one of democrats has 5 or 6.

There's either a misprint with the opposing party's shore at 9th place on the Democratic list, or the Republican list is wrong, or the whole thing is fake.

And I wouldn't trust tv ratings anyways.
