The line between pathetic stupidity on an internet forum and actual real-world consequences from internalizing the worldviews of said forums (MRAs in this case, white supremacy in others, etc.) is a fine one indeed.

Anyway: what a horrible, pathetic thing to kill over-an inability to get laid. It'd almost be comical if the implications weren't tragic. Clearly this guy had deeper issues. And besides, he lived a charmed life-his father was part of the Hollywood elite, after all...

Just goes to show that having a lot of $tuff in your life doesn't solve the problem of being a sh*tty person; if anything, it only deepens the persecution complex and the sense of entitlement.

This hits a nerve with me. When I was 22, I too drove a BMW and had well-to-do parents and was surrounded by attractive, popular people who by and large pretended I wasn't there. It's frustrating and it makes you a very angry, bitter person.

I never went out and shot a bunch of people (the only person I've ever considered killing is myself). But, yeah, harboring a simultaneous longing for and visceral hatred of the chipper blonde sorority girls who never gave me the time of day; been there, done that. And I still don't understand what it is that I do wrong.

There's no excuse for what Elliot Rodger did, but I do know what he must have felt like.

It brings me no pleasure to be the one to tell the forum this, but 'incel' in some of those tags in Flo's screenshots stands for 'involuntarily celibate'; as a subset of the general MRA/Nice Guy movement the 'incel' 'community' has given us such online luminaries as Governments Get Girlfriends (now known as That Incel Blogger--sample comment: 'Oh, it’s very real, my dear mangina. Real to everybody but people like you supporting their murderous acts.'), and many of them openly admire or at least sympathize with George Sodini. So Rodger has a (fortunately small) pantheon to join.

The kid had Asperger syndrome and he very clearly suffered from other mental and emotional problems. The men's rights movement is a victimhood group first and foremost and it's very easy for a sexually frustrated guy to pick up on what they have to say. The blame on the killings lies firmly on himself, though. He could have maybe had an active romantic life if he devoted his time and resources into self-improvement rather than admiring himself in a classically narcissistic fashion and holding severe jealousy for those who've had better luck than him.
