The President of the Community of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, resigned this morning mentioning "personal issues". The main newspapers are sure she's resigned because of health problems (she had breast cancer, or still has, we don't know, actually). I think she has because she doesn't want to deal with more spending cuts and become an unpopular politician -surprisingly, she's popular (in Spain, someone is popular when he/she has about a -10 approval rating), people like her because she's a populist, but despise her policies. She may return to the Arena again, specially if Rajoy is so unpopular that the PP needs another leader. She'd love to be President of Spain.

She has "appointed" (she's the Dictator in the PP of Madrid, everyone there is loyal to her) Ignacio Gonzalez, the VP of the Community. The problem is that he's been investigated over corruption and espionage charges, and has a mansion in Marbella (the Martha's Vineyard of Spain), but, at the same time, he only earns 3,000€/month (corruption? Surely).

Esperanza Aguirre is the politician I hate the most, I hate her even more than I hate Aznar, or even Franco. IMO, she's a bad person, one who loves to annoy the left, paint us as loser every time she can(actually, we are, because Madrid is too conservative to give us a win).
I'm not the only one who hates her, she must be the most hated politician in Spain. The problem is that the far-right LOVES her, and the far-right is still very powerful in Spain, and specially in Madrid, where they are almost a majority.

So, I won't miss her, and I think it'll be easier to win the next time without her. But we probably won't, anyway.

I'm going to go read about this Aguirre figure, she sounds fascinating. (To be clear, this isn't because you or the left hate her; I'm legitimately surprised how a "state governor" in Spain can be popular, especially one who has served since 2007.)

Yes, we do.

Oh, I forgot to say that PSOE+ IU had one more congressman than PP after 2003 elections, and Rafael Simancas was going to be elected President with the support of the communists. But 2 socialist deputies didn't vote for Simancas (we have congressional elections to elect Presidents), the famous "Tamayazo", which was orchestrated by the far-right. As it was impossible to have an absolute majority to elect a President, new elections were called, and, with a very low turnout, Aguirre easily won... So, actually, she didn't win at the first time, and "madrileños" should be ashamed for having voted for her after the "tamayazo".

They, Tamayo and Saez, have big mansions in Valencia now. I'm wondering where the money came from.

Actually, if you want to know something about it... You have to pay Enrique de Diego (a journalist who at the time was very close to Aguirre and now hates her) a big fortune, because he wants to say something about it, but he keeps earning more and more money, which, supposedly, is coming from Intereconomia, a multimedia company who survives because of Aguirre's subventions. So his silene is already bought.

Really? Now I knew Telemadrid was considered Aguirre's own personal domain but this I didn't know - though it does explain a lot. *Thinks back to all those bored days turning on the TV and listening to intereconomia for the Lulz only understand half of it*

Telemadrid is supposed to be a public TV. But we have many far-right TV channels here, while only LaSexta is leftist: Libertad Digital, Intereconomia, Intereconomia2, PopularTV, 13tv, Telecinco  and co.(slightly, propiety of Berlusconi), Antena3 and co., Canal9 in Valencia (public TV, too), TeleMadrid, Castilla La Mancha TV (also public TV)...

Ah yes, the joys of Spanish TV (never met anyone who confessed to actually watching it).

I only watch LaSexta, and Telecinco and Cuatro (who used to be left-wing before Berlusconi bought it) sometimes.
