Euthanasia ban

Given that - states such as Canada and the Netherlands have seen their euthanasia rates increase 8 fold

Given that - euthanasia is now the 6th highest cause of death in Canada.

Given that euthanasia has been delivered to those who are neither in terminal illness nor in pain.

Given that the weak and vulnerable in society should not feel pressure to kill themselves.

Given that euthanasia has been abused as a tool to eradicate undesireables in the past.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

The chamber of delegates will ban euthanasia throughout the South. No doctor nor nurse may apply treatment with the primary intent of killing their patient. Doctors or Nurses found liable for euthanasia shall be fined 50k for the first offense, and stripped of their license on the second offense. Further offenses would be arrested for a charge of murder.

The men and women of Canada had similar 'safeguards'. The issue isn't that people should have the right to kill themselves - which they do - but whether or not we will permit others to kill them. Nurses, and Doctors should not be permitted to kill their patients. In Canada we are seeing men and women denied treatment because the treatment is seen as futile and more expensive than a pill that would kill them.

Does this seem compassionate to you NeverAgain? Should we not do the best we can to preserve life, not end it?

This study shows that 17 percent of all cases the doctor proceeds anyways without consent. So, no it is not 'up to the patient'. So long as the doctor has care over terminally ill patients, they are at risk of being killed without their consent.

There are two ways to ration a system, price or quotas. Canada's single payer system cannot ration by price, therefore they ration by quota.  The majority of the cost of a person's medical care for their entire life comes in the last year of their life. There are significant financial incentives to deny care and supply an euthanasia pill.

Actually, it can and has happened already.

Which is why we should oppose euthanasia as it violates the principle of 'first do no harm'.

You cannot do both. If you sincerely believe that doctors should try to save the lives of their patients, you cannot have them kill the patient.

I'm going to open up a 72 hour vote on this bill, as debate has died down.

I already gave you precisely the time you're asking for, amusingly enough.

"Time and tide wait for no man".

You stated you wanted 24 hours to compose a reply on Sunday and I gave you 48 hours, and didn't start the vote on the bill until Tuesday. That you didn't consider it a sufficient priority on Monday or Tuesday is not my problem, but yours. Clearly the legislation just isn't that important to you.

Perhaps you should make better use of your time.
