The Libertarian party never would have nominated Weld for the top spot. Remember that they almost nominated Larry Sharpe for VP instead of Weld.

If it somehow happened, yes, the ticket would have done far better. Romney would have endorsed the ticket, which would likely prevent Evan McMullin from running and bring on a lot of other Never-Trumpers. Weld also never would have made the Aleppo or the "Favorite Leader" gaffes, and Johnson would have been able to fill the appropriate role of the VP during the campaign - Parrot the top of the ticket talking points and don't overshadow the top of the ticket. That probably would have been enough to get the ticket to 5%, which is the threshold for federal funding in the next election.
