With Iona's elimination from the NCAA Tournament tonight, Head Coach Rick Pitino is expected to take the vacant Head Coach position at St. John's within days.

Iona's a pretty good mid-major school, and should have no trouble attracting a recently fired coach or a high-major assistant.

A couple of names to watch might be Hofstra's Speedy Claxton (he did just sign a contract extension, but this would be an impressive hire for Iona after Pitino, with ties to the NYC area) and Patrick Ewing (Ewing's ties to New York City as a long-time player for the New York Knicks make Iona a possible destination if he still wishes to coach in college.).

Ewing is an awful coach

I think the problem was Georgetown's expectations of him. Iona doesn't have the same expectations (though following Rick Pitino would be a challenge at any program).

He is a subpar recruiter, but again, Iona isn't somewhere where recruits generally want to go to begin with, so it shouldn't matter much.

As busted as the brackets are after the first round, there are surprisingly few upsets. By an upset I mean a lower seed defeating a higher seed, except when they are adjacent seed which are statistically tossups. I've been tracking upset rates since the early 1990's and I've found most years have around a 25% upset rate. The first round had only 5 upsets in 28 games (8 vs 9 games don't count). That's 2 less than last year which was right on average with 7 upsets in the first round, before jumping up to 5 upsets out of 14 second round games.

Western Kentucky to hire Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Head Coach Steve Lutz to fill their head coaching vacancy.

Before coming to Corpus Christi was an assistant at Stephen F. Austin, SMU, Creighton and Purdue, and is a pretty good recruiter, notably being responsible for Zach Edey's recruitment while at Purdue.

This is a pretty good hire.

Memphis got absolutely jobbed by the zebras in last night's loss to FAU.  Details here:

Memphis’ ignored timeout is the most controversial moment of March Madness

Another #1 seed bites the dust, as Arkansas comes back from 14 down to beat Kansas 72-71.

Princeton is running Missouri off the court right now. The New Jersey Tigers lead the Missouri Tigers 62-45 with about five minutes to go.

Princeton is heading to the Sweet Sixteen, as they crush Missouri, 78-63.

Next up for the Tigers, either Creighton or Baylor.

Sadly, I can't directly post the video because it's not a YouTube link, but let's just say shirtless Eric Musselman is something I never wanted to see.

Honestly not sure if Alabama survives their Sweet Sixteen matchup with San Diego State. We could be looking at a Final Four with no #1 seeds. Has that ever happened?

Seeding was introduced in 1979.  Since then, there have been three Final Fours with no #1 seeds:

1980 (48 teams total): #2 Louisville (champion), #5 Iowa, #6 Purdue, #8 UCLA

2006: #2 UCLA, #3 Florida (champion), #4 LSU, #11 George Mason

2011: #3 UConn (champion), #4 Kentucky, #8 Butler, #11 VCU (a First Four team)

In contrast, a Final Four of all #1 seeds has happened only once, in 2008 (Kansas, Memphis, North Carolina, UCLA).

My best bracket wasn't the money bracket it was a fantasy bracket Zags v Alabama in Finals

I am warming up to Miami, because FL is becoming a battleground not TX, I should of entered that bracket but I put Duke v Houston I knew Houston Cougars would win but Duke without Coach K sux

My best bracket had ALABAMA/MICH ST  and ZAGS/TX IN THE FINAL 4 AND zags winning at least I know now whom to pick, from now on, it's gonna be AL and Zags in the title game

Zags can finally get over the hump and win it

I'd say fire Calipari, but Jeff Goodman is dramatically underselling this year's Kansas State team. They basically got jobbed out of a two seed in my opinion.
