The parallel vote counting indicates a result of 54% for Plevneliev and 46% for Kalfin. Not bad, when considering the conditions under which these elections were held.

In the local races there were some rather close results and with fresh electoral irregularities, there might be even more appeals for cancellation of election results. In some rare good news, Yordan Letchkov has been defeated as mayor. Hopefully this will be the last time professional footballers are elected to political office here.

The Bulgarian socialist party is challenging the Presidential election and has managed to get the necessary amount of Parliamentary deputy signatures (mainly with the help of the MRF) to bring this to the attention of the constitutional court. The consensus is that this isn't going anywhere, but the very precedent of a Presidential election being challenged is already significant.
