The Impossible: Humphrey/Harris in '68!

Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey climbed from the ashes of the crumbling Johnson administration to a resounding victory tonight. After six brutal months in which Richard Nixon refused to debate the incumbent Vice President, the Democratic party was fractured by Alabama segregationist Governor George Wallace's in depending campaign for President, the election ended tonight with victory for Hubert Humphrey, and the young Senator from Oklahoma, Fred Harris.

In a stunning twist just last week, the Nixon campaign was revealed to have interfered and thwarted peace talks being negotiated by the Johnson administration. Humphrey seized on this and barnstormed the entire country this last week, and it paid off. We go now to the map.

Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey / Oklahoma Senator Fred Harris - 331 33,095,832 45.1%
Frmr. Vice President Richard Nixon / Maryland Governor Spiro Agnew - 153 30,341,042 41.3%
