I myself am considering filling out an application to be on one of my Township boards despite having almost zero qualifications and the fact that I'll spend most of my time in Detroit over the summer.

Do you seriously just have to apply? Who decides whether to accept your application? The mayor?

First off, our highest executive is a Township Supervisor. Second off, I should probably re-read the stuff to see who signs off on it. It may be merely an informal job app, but it ain't elected, apparently, so it's probably one of the "big guys" approving the apps. I'd be willing to show up for any meeting I can, not sure if I'll actually fill out the app or what. Still gotta finalize stuff with my employer.
