Ad Astra 2 is an objectively bad map. Doesn’t change the partisanship, and makes the lines more confusing for no reason or benefit. Can’t believe this is a hill they’re dying on

? It changes a map that has 1 likely D and 1 likely R to a tilt D and Safe R.

Barely? And it won’t last past 2022. Davis could go down, but the way northeast Kansas is trending it’s not a guarantee and likely would flip back in 2024

edit; after some messing around in Dave’s you can get a solid enough 4-0 map. Does require some octopus arms, but I managed to split only one county
The real way to ensure no Dems is elected is placing Wyandotte in KS-01. But that's a bold step that would be very unlikely to get all the votes it needs to pass an override. Many rural legislators would likely dislike that a lot.

It occurs to me that one could theoretically justify putting Wyandotte into KS-01 with the logic/excuse of making a minority-influence district! You can combine the Hispanic population in Southwest Kansas with that in Kansas City and Topeka into one district.

In this map the 1st would be only 57% white (down from 64% in 2010), and there's a good chance it could become majority-minority by the end of the decade. https://davesredistricting.org/join/9329dff6-da7e-40fa-be98-e29009c8fc41

KS-01: Trump +16 in 2016; Trump +10 in 2020
KS-02: Trump +20 in 2016; Trump +14 in 2020
KS-03: Trump +19 in 2016; Trump +14 in 2020
KS-04: Trump +26 in 2016; Trump +21 in 2020

That shows some very out-of-the-box thinking. Good work!
Of course, it would probably be a long-term loss for Republicans, due to the very hostile trends in KS-01.

Reminder since there will be a vote today that R's can only lose 2 House votes and succeed. 84 votes are needed for an override and they have 86. They did not have this majority last time the vote came up, but some members were out. There are rumors they have the votes, and rumors they don't.

Welp, onto the Kansas Supreme Court I guess. A functioning democracy shouldn't have to resort to litigation to achieve fair representation.

Again why?

The CD map don’t even help you that much, just gives you a viable shot at a short term KS-03 rental. This is pure desperation

There are some members not present, so it looks like we're going to have a repeat of the situation in the Senate from a few days ago.

Currently YES votes are at 80 out of 84 needed to override.

I think that means there are not the votes?

Vote is now 81-38 (the one who voted present, Rep. Seiwert, changed his vote to a yes).

Reps Jacob and Lee have returned. Hoffman has not yet.

This has to be the most dramatic redistricting of any state so far. Stakes are super-high...and as others have said, for what? Maybe they flip KS03 in 2022 but trends will catch up very soon, especially given that I believe KS03 is still a Biden seat that's trending sharply leftwards.

Anyway, this is definitely worth watching and I'd like to thank BoiseBoy for giving us regular updates.

KS-02: Trump +20 in 2016; Trump +14 in 2020
KS-03: Trump +19 in 2016; Trump +14 in 2020
KS-04: Trump +26 in 2016; Trump +21 in 2020

The 1st district is a very important district due to how basically every kansas senator for decades has come from it as a congressman.  So you basically destroyed it, which makes any aspirational legislators mad. Now a logical clean 3-0-1 map would likely just be the 1st jumps into take Wyandotte county. However what they instead did was have the 1st take in Lawrence which has the same number of net votes as Wyandotte but is way smaller. Therefore this allows more of the 1st district to stay intact while still taking similar amount of net Democratic voters such that the 2nd can now be used to help make the 3rd district more R.

I hope this map gets litigated. It deserves to suffer the fate of OH and NC. KS GOP is one of the most idiotic, spineless state parties in existence.

Thank god for the KS Supreme Court.
