Agreed. Have you seen Audition? It was quite a big influence on Hostel, plus it's one of my favourite films of all-time.

Toy Story 2

The little aliens are my favourite characters in any movie, ever.

What'd you think of that, as someone who doesn't agree with most (any?) of what Gore is saying?

Probably "NO! NO! NO! IT ISN'T HAPPENING!", cue this image.

Heck, it's what some people have been doing for nigh-on a decade.

Finding Nemo

Been stuck at home with the cold/flu lately, so I've just been watching loads of Pixar movies.

Smultronstället (Wild Strawberries), for the third time this year. Still flawless. Smiley

I agree, excellent film.

Exes, a French B-movie I had to QC at work, and I hope never to see it again. I usually love French cinema, but this was the pits. But for what it's worth, I failed it for having illegal audio peaks. Cheesy

The Prestige

Good. A bit contrived in parts, but very good nevertheless. Christopher Nolan is easily one of the best directors working in Hollywood today.

What really makes the film great is Nolan's directing and the performances of Bale, Jackman and Caine.

I agree, great acting all around.

Vanished.

OK movie.  Wierd seeing Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock so young.

Watch the original. It's miles better.

Videodrome

I watched it at 2 in the morning, and... what a mindfuck it was. Long live the new flesh!

oh, and the Criterion Collection DVD (which I happen to own Wink) is superb. Incredible packaging, great transfer, and a mountain of extras. Criterions don't come cheap, but they're worth it.

True Classic it truly is. Death to videodrome, Long live the new flesh! Smiley

Seen A history of Violence?

I have, but I didn't really like it. I found it to be one of the most overrated films of that year. It didn't really get to me in any way.

Here I was thinking I was the only one.... Cronenberg's best is the old stuff imo.

I agree. I didn't actually mind A History Of Violence, but it doesn't compare to Scanners or Videodrome.

Annie Hall - that movie really gets better every time I watch it. But should I be worried by the fact that I can identify with Woody Allen's character?

Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Quite good. Possibly the best of the Potter movies so far. Though that's perhaps not saying much, since I have absolutely no time for the first two.

The Departed

Very very good, but if I'm honest, not quite as good as the HK original (which was very very very good). But all the same, it was nice to see a Hollywood remake which for a change seemed to make an effort to match the original, had an excelling cast and a master director in charge, and on top of that made a few changes which seemed deliberately designed to catch fans of Infernal Affairs off guard ("Oh, I know what's gonna happen now! Oh shoot, no I don't!"), but still, I felt the final final FINAL plot twist was just a bit too much. Still, great cinema. I hope Scorcese finally wins his long-overdue Oscar.

Letters from Iwo Jima which was an overall amazing film. Very touching and very nicely done. It was also interesting to see WWII from another perspective other than the "victorious" side all the time.

I can definitely recommend Downfall then, in case you haven't seen it yet. Absolutely awesome film.

Bloody genius. I never really rated Greenaway until recently, mainly because I didn't necessarily understand his work, but now I do I can appreciate it on a whole new level. It's a shame we don't really do art like this in Britain anymore, stuff that is challenging and daring and isn't scared to be intellectual. Anyway, great film.

Nice to meet a like minded person on the board. Though it's near impossible to find Greenaway's films here in Ireland (My copy of TCTTHSHL was bought in an obscure second hand VHS place). Smiley

Surely you can get them imported from the UK? Mind you, strangely enough Prospero's Books is unavailable over here... now that's one of his movies I really want to see. Sad

Pan's Labyrinth.

The first hour dragged a little, but the ending more than made up for it. Awesome film.

My Neighbours The Yamadas

Excellent. Shows that we haven't even scraped the potential that animation (the old-school kind, not 3D) has to offer. There's so much you can do with this genre that is simply impossible in live action.

Lilya 4-Ever

Not the most depressing film I've ever seen, but close.
