The Donald just has no appeal in Utah. Looks like they don't want to make America great again.

Great for Sanders once again showing himself to be a better General Candidate because of the strong connection with Independents

That is not the result for the Dem side. Nobody cares who "all Utahns" want to be the Democratic nominee. Hillary leads among Democrats.

There are far, far more registered Independents in Utah than registered Democrats. There really isn't a "result" that accurately gauges the Dem race in this poll.

as mentioned above, the DEM side is an open caucus, so...the 41-19 result is applicable.

Weird poll. It's probably safe to say Sanders is leading though.

Considering the overwhelming amount of respondents to the question are Republicans or right wing independents...no.

That's true. Sanders probably leads in the single digits when you factor in independents actually likely to vote in the D primary.

Bush getting out of the race will only help Rubio expand his lead over Cruz here. It looks like he may win a state after all.

Not great numbers for White Horse Manchurian Candidate Marco Rubio. Nevada is looking to be a blood bath!

Utah should be one of Sanders' best states. Very liberal Democratic electorate (one of the most liberal in the country) and very few minorities.

It looks like part of Sanders' path to the nomination exists here in the West. He needs to not only win these states, but win them by a lot. We'll see how accurate this poll is.

I don't understand why anyone would structure a poll this way. They do it in Tennessee too, and it drives me nuts.

Yeah. These are pretty much worthless for states where indies can vote in primaries.

I always thought that red-state Dems are more conservative than the mainstream and blue-state GOPers are more moderate.

This is the case in some states, but in Utah, the Democratic Party is almost entirely white liberals. Similar phenomena can be observed in California, where the Republican Party is extremely conservative.

It depends in CA. Kashkari, the 2014 gubernatorial candidate, was a moderate. Kevin Faulconer is also a moderate; Arnie was a moderate, too.

Are California Republicans really "extremely conservative" compared to the average Republican in the rest of the country?  I don't think that's the case.  I think it's just that they're notably more conservative than their counterparts in similarly Democratic states on the East Coast.

The Oregon and Washington GOP are not particularly moderate either. They're probably in the same place as the national party. It's just that even that makes them much more conservative than their states, they lose elections all the time, and that makes them seem like they most be extremists. Really, the states are just very liberal.

538 did an infographic on the liberalness and conservativeness of each state's voters, seen in this article.

OR (followed by WA) had the most Kerry voters and the most conservative Bush voters. CA was kind of middling on both spectrums. UT's Kerry voters were a bit more moderate than CA's. But then again, that's voters, not registered Democrats.
