He's after Barney's old seat. Could RB's timeline be coming true after all? Tongue

I used RFK III, not Joe. I doubt he has designs on anything else, given the family's recent track record.

If he runs and wins, I'm putting him as a clear favourite once Kerry's seat is vacated. Tongue

Kerry's already said he's running in 2014, so he'll have to wait till 2020 or challenge Brown in 2018.

It's his son. But the would-be restorationists, as I've always said, lost their last chance 13 years ago.

Looks like the Kennedy's are making a political comeback. Looks like Republicans can give up on winning that seat.

You're that confident Brown will still be there?

For 64 years, between JFK taking his House seat in 1947 and Patrick Kennedy's retirement in 2011, there was always member of Kennedy family in public office. If Joe III is successfull, we'll have only 2 years break.

2012- Warren-D gets elected to the US Senate. Joe Kennedy the 4th gets elected to the US House.
2014- Kerry-D gets re-elected to the US Senate. MA Governors Election- Patrick-D is not running for a third term. Democratic front runners are Attorney General Coakley or Lt Governor Tim Murray. Both candidates carry a lot of negative baggage. Brown-R could run for Governor of MA in 2014.
2016- Warren-D gets elected to the US Presidency. Assuming Brown-R occupies the MA Governorship in 2016. He appoints Romney-R to the US Senate in 2017.
2018. Joe Kennedy the 4th runs for the US Senate against the appointed incumbent Romney-R.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Or he could just, you know, run in 2020.

What I wonder is what would happen in the event that Obama appoints Kerry SoS for his second term. Would Patrick's interim appointment run for his or her own term, and if not, would Kennedy run even after only one (or less than one) House term? It doesn't happen frequently at all but it's not unheard-of (see: Rick Berg this year).

Depends who Patrick appoints, though I doubt Kennedy would jump for that after not even a full House term. Or he may seek the governor's office in '18, though apart from KKT no Kennedy has ever sought a non-presidential executive post.

Yeah...if Warren wins this year and Kerry gets made SoS I don't see any way Kennedy (or anybody else not currently established enough in Massachusetts politics to replace Kerry in the first place) has any opening to the Senate for quite some time, unless Warren or Kerry's replacement feels like running for Governor or President, which I doubt. He might just try to make a respectable House career for himself like Patrick.
