I didn't know they were allowed to show certain, ahem, organs in rated "R" movies? When did the rules change? Not that I really care, just curious.

It's not that they couldn't, it's just that no one wants to.

Really, what's the threshold on such things between R and X? They showed a dude getting a BJ in the movie.

I'm sure there's some sort of written guideline, but in reality its whatever the particular group of ratings reviewers feel like it is.

Top Gun was PG after all. (granted in 1986, there was no Pg 13)

first PG-13 movie was Red Dawn in 1984

Really? Wow....i mean if I recall correctly Top Gun was PG...and that movie had plenty of vulgar language for a PG film...not to mention some of the most homoerotic scenes in all of film.

Valkyrie

I'm on codeine right (for legit purposes) but it seemed like a pretty good flick to me. It isn't up there with Downfall or anything but it's definitely underrated.

Valkyrie was decent.  I can't say...oh wow it was awesome, but a solid film.  Everything I expected, nothing more, nothing less.

The Patriot on TNT.

Ok film...Jason Isaac's role is the one thing I really liked from it. (Tavington).

The Express.

About Syracuse's first (and only) Football National Championship and the first African American to win the Heisman, Ernie Davis.

Good movie, kinda exaggerates a great number of things (if you've seen the movie, the WVU game wasnt in Morgantown, SU's coach was wildly respected in the state.  The 1960 Cotton Bowl while being the biggest racially based adversity the team faced all year was exaggerated somewhat.

But otherwise, a good, cheesy sports film...

Donnie Darko. BRTD is right, for once. Soundtrack was kick ass as well.

Which version did you watch, the theatrical release or directors cut?  I personally prefer the theatrical.

Max Payne.

It was pretty awful, even the equivalent R-rated unrated director's cut which is what I watched. Also had virtually nothing to do with the game, the plot was butchered (Jack Lupino is supposed to be an insane mob boss, not an army sergeant!) and the girl who played Mona was simply the worst "action girl" I've ever seen in a movie. She didn't come across as a femme fatale, just a hot girl awkwardly using a gun.

You mean Mila Kunis?

I think its called The CSA - a Movie.  About the Confederate STates of America.  Good film, whatched it entirely on Youtube.  It is fascinating how similar the present is to the future confederacy.

That movie is hysterical.  I was happier than a pig in sh**t when i found it on sale at a B&N.

Re-viewed The Graduate.  Man it is impressive how much better 1967 was than now!

So true.

Everybody was smoking like chimneys, drinking nice hard highballs (mostly Martinis), and ing around.  Oh man, what's happened to us.  We're like that movie with the society of 40 year old virgins and Sylvester Stallone frozen.

Someone's watched Demolition Man lately eh?

Actually no, but its never far from my thoughts.

Never would have figured you for someone who watched somewhat recent (90s onward) movies.

Two Towers Extended.

Ive got some new blurays (Hangover, Inglourious Basterds [sic], Angels & Demons, Public Enemies) to watch, but TNT put the regular trilogy on earlier this week and I'm in an LOTR mood.

Shutter Island.

I wouldn't call it a horror movie, it's more of a "psychological thriller" like Donnie Darko. But it is one of the creepiest films I've seen in a very long time. Great performance from Leo and Ben Kingsley was just made for that role.

That good eh?  Looked kinda dumb from the preview.

...the Greater Good.

It certainly feels that way. One of those films that I felt the urge to say 'that's so true!' every few minutes. I mean, I don't think they actually kill people, but...

It feels like it could be set in some of the more affluent areas of Bucks Countuy too.

But when you say that's so true, is that a reputational type thing (going by what you think is a decent representation of the area) or do you have first or reliable second hand sources on it?

Because it seems to be a Londoner's (insert your hometown here) view of that part of your country, or a Lower Bucks person's view of Central Bucks.

One of the better versions I've seen so far.

I liked it too.  Certain aspects, I felt like were rushed together.  Particularly the ending.

Robin Hood.  Although the ending seemed like they were trying to cram it into not being a 3 hour movie.

True.  Seriously.  The whole post final battle part of the movie seemed very poorly put together.  Perhaps the dvd/bluray will have the directors cut like Kingdom of Heaven (The directors cut is actually a good movie).
