If your family has been here long enough, you can easily have several hundred direct ancestors who lived in  slavery times.

Old money often made a lot of it on the back of slaves. America!

No doubt about it. Extremely evident in my part of the world. Plenty of New England fortunes made in shipping the slaves and processing the cotton too.

As has been said, it's nothing more than a historical curiosity. People should be judged on their own character, not the character of their ancestors.

Except for Lannisters.

So, 1/64 of 43's DNA is from a slave trader? Stop the presses!

I thought this was already known?  Or perhaps I'm just thinking of being descended from a slave owner (virtually everybody).

Not that it matters--but there are huge numbers of Americans (my family included) whose roots don't go as far back as the 1860s here in any direction. And all my ancestors were here as of 95 years ago.

On the other hand, 3/4ths of 41's DNA is from those who traded illegally with Nazi Germany during WWII.

Well, I can see this little clan hasn't really gotten any better.  That IS curious.

My great-great grandfather was murdered in his home by his business partner. I guess that's the most interesting thing about my ancestors.

I'm pretty than everybody can find some awful criminal in their family.

I wonder. I have some 10,000 years of land-less farmers, miners and manual workers before me. One wonders what capacity for immorality those lives ultimately held. Maybe a little bawdy drunkenness, some petty adultery, but I can't really imagine anything that I should be horrified to find out.

The fullest, purest evil has almost always originated from the supposed Best People of the time, people who could order a heretic burned at the stake, a witch broken at the wheel, a town razed for failing to pay tribute, have a scholar buried alive for saying something that an emperor disliked, have Christians cast to the lions...

To say nothing of Britain. They even received compensation for theirs.
