Despite having one of the worst State governments in the country (though hopefully that will change after November! Insch'Allah), it's one of the States that seems nicest to live in.

Boston is a lovely city, and if the rural Western Massachusetts is anything like the rural areas I'm familiar with in France (except for having a far better political culture), I think I'd like it a lot too. I don't have much of an opinion of suburban Boston and mid-sized cities, but I doubt they could be bad enough to counteract the rest. The weather would be a huge deterrent to me actually wanting to live there (even when it's hot, it's the worst kind of heat! LA is probably hotter than Boston but it's far more bearable by virtue of being less humid and more windy), but weather isn't everything.

Clear Freedom State.

Virginia sounds like a really great State. Nevada... not so much.

California is just wannabe New York, but at least it's got its priorities straight

NY is great, but still doesn't even come remotely close to reaching 1/100000th of California's awesomeness.

I've never been there, but I have a very positive impression of VA.
