https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/un-experts-say-rwanda-has-intervened-militarily-eastern-congo-2022-08-04/

Quote
A United Nations Group of Experts said it has "solid evidence" that Rwandan troops have been fighting alongside the M23 rebel group in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and providing it with weapons and support.

The findings were contained in a confidential report seen by Reuters on Thursday.

Rwanda has previously denied accusations by Congo's government that it supports the M23 and that it has sent troops into the country. The M23 has denied it receives Rwandan support.

The U.N. group "obtained solid evidence of the presence of, and military operations conducted by, RDF (Rwandan Defence Force) members in Rutshuru territory between November 2021 and July 2022," the report said.

RDF members conducted joint attacks with M23 fighters against Congo's army and Congolese armed groups, and provided the rebels with weapons, ammunition and uniforms, it said.

The abuse of Congo by its neighbors continues.
It'd be great if someone partnered with them so that they could stand up for themselves.

This is well known, it's blatantly obvious that Paul Kagame has orchestrated the systematic looting of Congo and is a major driver of the tragic violence in the region. He's one of the most evil world leaders out there, and the fact that he has such good PR among global development types is a by-product of willful blindess at this stage.

If you have any interests in Rwanada or non-ficition books in general I highly recommend the book Do Not Disturb by Michela Wrong

Our government still wants to send asylum seekers on a one way ticket there, though.

I love Rwanda and Paul Kagame. I'd happily live there.

It's always a good sign when the conflict summary has four different columns of belligerents.

I'd pay for a one way plane ticket if your promise not to leave.

Kagame is certainly an effective ruler, and his leadership shows how once a country is stable and has the proper infrastructure/human base, economic liberalism is the pathway toward development.

That can be said about several historical figures who also had just a bit in the debit ledger.

Kagame was never a pure good figure back then, and he's not a pure evil figure now either.
That does not detract from the (increasing?) awfulness of how he's handled Congo, which deserves criticism left aside any broad judgement of his overall character.

Does this dramatically alter the state of play? The Rwandan army have been there to varying degrees for 25 years.
