I wonder which prominenti will back Mulcair. Then again, Layton had no support in caucus when he won...
Layton had support of 2/13ths of caucus. That'd be 16 mp's with the current number of MPs.

The NDP really needs a federalist woman who is locally popular in Montreal or Quebec City.

Sadly, there are none.

They have a federalist man who's popular in both cities.
An unknown?

Mulcair is, across Canada, Mulcair.
Topp is, thanks to the media, Topp.

In 2003, Blaikie was Blaikie, Nystrom was Nystrom, Comartin was Comartin, and Layton was "who is this guy", as he was only known in Toronto.

The NDP would need another "who is this guy", and the best person to be that guy is someone from Montreal or Quebec City.

I've looked, at former Mayors, candidates, current Councillors, and could not find anyone.

All that matters are the non-Quebec Mulcair supporters and the non-Mulcair Quebec members.

MULCAIR
A bunch of non-important Quebec MP's plus...
Dan Harris, Scarborough SW
Matt Kellway, Beaches-East York
Wayne L Marston, Hamilton East
John Rafferty, Thunder B

TOPP
A bunch of non-important non-Quebec MP's plus...
Françoise Boivin, Gatineau
Alain Giguère, Marc-Aurèle-Fortin
Alexandre Boulerice, Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie

No, they don't matter in their ridings.

They matter in the media.

Which were?

I don't see how the NDP can go that much further to the center without just being slightly more appealing Liberals. It sort of defeats the purpose of the NDP's entire existence.

Policies don't matter, parties never do what they say, it's about what their members think is right and wrong. Many Tories think Gay rights are wrong, and they are therefore wrong. NDPers are the kind that'd arrest George Bush, and for that they are also wrong. I am no Socialist, and the NDP is an openly socialist party.

It's also priorities. If the government could somehow magically reduce all taxes to 1% and fully fund every program anyone could dream of, all parties would opt for this. The NDP's priorities, especially on the federal level, are not mine.

At this time I'm projecting a final ballot of
Mulcair - 57.5%
Topp - 42.5%

On the NDP...

We need to go back to 1993 and 1988.

Where the Reform Party was at this time, is where the Conservative Party of Today is. Where the PC Party was is where the Liberals are. The NDP is moving towards where the Liberals were.

I apologize if this seems harsh, but not voting for a party on the basis of "they have a few members that said this one time" seems shallow and silly. I expect that from some people, obviously, but I always assumed members of this forum would be smarter than that.
I speak of MP's.

I'm curious how the hot chicks are voting. One is backing Mulcair, but I don't think one of the others has taken a side.

Ducasse is not running. It's far too late for him to run, especially with everyone positioning themselves as the Quebec candidate.

Funke's posts are okay but they are too wordy. (Even this post is a bit on the wordy side for me when it comes to elections) There should be more graphics.

I made this

Now before anyone gives me the "OMG BUT YER RONG BOUT IT" I will say this as clear as I can

I've created this image in Paint, the free program that comes with Windows. Even if you use Linux or a Mac, you likely have a program that can easily edit this. And I want you to. I have built this with the intention that others, like you, yes you, will edit this. So rather than complain about how wrong I am, edit this image, and post it here. The more people who do this, the better I can get this image to be.

Note that this is relative between Layton an the 4 edges. Meaning. If Jack Layton is 712 points pro-labour and Nash is the most pro-labour candidate, and Nash is 2,114 points pro-labour, then, the scale between Layton and Nash is between 712 and 2,114. Meanwhile if Mulcair is 504 Pro-Labour, then that scale (between Layton and Mulcair) is between 712 and 504. Thus even though there is more room between Nash and Layton than between Layton and Mulcair, they (Nash and Mulcair) each end up on the edges. It's a comparison thing.

You can change this when you change your image, but I'd like to keep Layton in the centre.
