He's running the government like a business. Should appeal greatly to both poor overweight Southerners who love eating and elite Wall Street fat (no pun intended) cats.

He's also only spending only 2/3 of what the max permitted so maybe there is some fiscal conservatism in there too!

He's obviously spending this money wine-and-dining business into New Jersey (or so you'd hope) so non-issue at the end of the day. Media trying to tear down a pretty strong candidate.

The percentage chance Chris Christie goes to jail has officially exceeded the chance he wins the Republican nomination by tenfold. Congrats!

Anyone who is shocked by someone spending $2,500 per game on food and drinks in a luxury box at an NFL football game hasn't been to many football games or luxury boxes.  Stadium food and drinks for the plebes in the nosebleed seats is terribly overpriced.  You can easily spend $50 on beer and snacks.  One can only imagine how marked-up luxury box food is.  Luxury boxes also seat 30 people or so, so the overall cost is likely less than $100 per person - which is peanuts for a business dinner at a fancy New York City restaurant.

Not that the optics look good for Christie.

I'd imagine a large portion of that was heavily marked-up alcohol.

Even a man of Christie's girth can only eat so many buffalo bacon sliders before the laws of biology kick in.

I think politicians need to stop having scandals that they personally can be easily caricatured by. For example, Christie is overweight, so he needs to not have food-related scandals. Anthony Weiner should have known better with his name and the sex scandal ("Carlos Danger" just made it funnier). And someone who has rumors about their sexuality (like Aaron Schock) shouldn't be delving into interior decorating scandals.

I'm not saying any of them are worse people for their various traits (they're bad for corruption/ethic problems), but they should know better, since they know they have those traits, and they know that the media will poke fun at them mercilessly if their scandal fits a stereotype/assumed trait. So if I were them, I'd have been extra careful with those kinds of scandals.

Oddly enough, Christie isn't even a Giants or Jets fan—he's a life long Cowboys fan. Maybe he just really likes stadium food?
