The motion by Sen. Stabenow to send the bill back to committee has failed by a vote of 45-55. Manchin/Heitkamp/Donnelly defect.

Wtf? Why did those three hayseeds defect?

Because they're Republicans

Don't be silly. They're just smart enough to know they need to be seen as willing to work with Trump to win again.

That is not true.  This tax bill is unpopular nationwide.  Voting against it will only serve to help vulnerable Democrat senators, especially if Republicans are stupid enough to pass it.

Note how this wasn't the vote on the final bill.

If this bill actually passed, the working class will notice its heavily negative effects on them pretty quickly, and they will be very mobilized to vote Democrat in 2018 and 2020.

I hate to pick Feinstein of all senators to link but apparently, Rethuglicans are delaying the vote.

If Collins votes for this, she is going to lose in 2020.

If enough Democrat Senators played the delay game regarding throwing votes in to send the bill back to committee, then we would have had a real shot at delaying the bill until McCain had to go back to Arizona continue his cancer treatments, which would have costed the Republicans a yes vote.

If it is indeed necessary to vote again, and this vote is 50-50, it could make people more motivated to turn out for Doug Jones.

...And it can make people more motivated to turn out to vote for Roy Moore.

This would not help Roy Moore; the tax bill has extremely high disapproval.

Are they really going to vote on a bill with handwritten annotations on it? Really?

Is that allowed anymore?

reporters are tweeting that it's not uncommon to have handwritten notes on margins.

But how often is the handwriting on the margins intentionally hard to read?

This will create a downballot disaster for Republicans in 2018, if it passes.

Regardless of how you feel about its contents, this bill's passage has been an utter disaster for republicans. They handled this worse than democrats did on O-Care. Republicans have gotten lazy since winning both house of congress and its going to cost them immensely in 2018.

A bill with F_CKING illegible hand written edits in the margins was passed! F_CK REPUBLICANS AND THEIR VOTERS.

You can just tell it was a Republican too: bad handwriting and tons of basic spelling mistakes

Which themselves will bring up Constitutional questions.

I'm waiting for someone to discover a typo that changes intent, something like a reduction in taxes on boats being written as "boots". Smiley

In one state some drug offenders had to be released because the statute prohibited "ethamphetamine" instead of "methamphetamine".

How did this post become the #1 search result of "ethamphetamine typo in law" in google.  I think you made this up now.

I'm going to die of a stroke when Democrats reclaim the chamber and Mark Warner or whoever gets on TV to talk about how they can't just pass everything they want because they have to care about the deficit.
They are simply going to heavily increase taxes on the richest people & corporations.

They're standing up to their donors. True champions of the people/fiscal responsibility!

Except, of course, that this was unintentional and is going to get removed/"fixed".

Yeah, I know. Would this even require a new senate vote? They can just sort this out in conference right (of course the senate has to vote for that anyway)?

Without a doubt, the most despicable section of the Senate bill is the section to destroy the arctic.
