March 31st 1981:President Ronald Reagan is shot and fatally wounded by a assassin named John Hinckley Jr who does it to impress actress Jodie Foster.  

Vice President George Bush is sworn in as president at a hotel suite he was renting and then taken straight to Washington DC.
