Right to be Reproduced Act

Reproductive Rights Act (F.L. 18-1) is repealed.

(Sponsor: Jake)

[Note to Jas: I'm using the order from the 22nd Senate, minus those which were dropped because no one picked up sponsorship. This should go in Slot 1.]

Someone please correct me if I have misinterpreted legal procedure here.

The Reproductive Rights Act repeals previous federal law dealing with abortion.  This bill would repeal that Act, but previously repealed laws are not reinstated when the Act repealing them is itself repealed.  Thus, this bill would remove all restrictions on abortion within federal territories and the District of Columbia.

If that is the case, may I enthusiastically declare my support for this legislation.

I like the title of the bill. I have a Right to be Reproduced! You may not refuse to sleep with me without contraception!

The title is obviously viciously discriminatory against the infertile.

I motion to replace the title with "Removal of Abortion Restrictions Bill".

Abortion shouldn't be completely unrestricted, so I'm going to have to think long and hard on this.

Abortion shouldn't be completely unrestricted

A study by the Ebowed News Corporation suggests that third trimester abortion rates are the same in the Pacific Region than anywhere else in the country- despite the fact that abortion is completely unrestricted (and free) there.  This means that women only get a third trimester abortion if their life or health is at risk, generally speaking.  Best to leave that painful and difficult decision to the woman and her doctor rather than complicating matters with potential legal problems.

I suspect that the original intent of this bill was not to repeal all abortion law, but either way it is intended and interpreted, I oppose it.

I'm quite supportive of abortion rights and pro-choice on the whole, but I do feel very uncomfortable about fully legalizing abortion on demand up to the moment of birth.

To move the Senate's business along I'll withdraw the bill.

With no Senator having assumed sponsorship in 72 hours, this bill is withdrawn.
