Since I'm bad at this, I went with easy.

1976 (I answered mostly in a way that would take California away from Ford, got a lot more than bargained for)

2000 (Get Gore his home state)

391: Fmr Gov. Mitt Romney(R-MA)/Sen. Marco Rubio(R-FL) - 53.2%
147: Pres. Barack Obama(D-IL)/Vice Pres. Joe Biden(D-DE) - 46.0%

Libertarian - 0.6%
Green - 0.2%
Originally, Maine was called for Obama late in the night. The Romney campaign pursued a recount, which shifted ~3000 votes their way, granting them a margin of victory just over two thousand.

Just for future reference, it's much easier to prevent an electoral majority as Wallace if you play on Impossible than it is if you go Easy/Normal. Impossible mode helps Humphrey a lot for some reason.

I won 389 electoral votes with Ford/Connally on easy. Only won popular 50-48 though.

I couldn't get AL/LA, but I did get MS.

First: I stuck with Mondale for Carter, and switched to Graham for Gore

Now continuing (still on easy)

1896 [switched to Adlai Stevenson for Bryan]

1968 [switched to Fred Harris for Humphrey...no idea how but I managed to get a more liberal result out of South Carolina than North Carolina]

Confounding the predictions of many experts, you were able to turn the tables on Al Gore, in spite of the economy and Clinton's popularity.
On the political front, you can push for tax cuts to spur the economy and return the budget surplus to the American people. You might also pursue education and immigration reform, individual Social Security accounts, and new laws to defend the family and the sanctity of life.

Candidate   Electoral Votes   Popular Votes   Popular Vote %
---- George W. Bush   352   52,071,450   49.2%
---- Al Gore   186   48,940,295   46.2%
---- Ralph Nader   0   2,606,328   2.5%
---- Pat Buchanan   0   2,213,841   2.1%

Closest States:

Michigan:

Bush: 49.92%
Gore: 48.42%

Pennsylvania:

Bush: 49.33%
Gore: 47.39%

Washington:

Gore: 48.54%
Bush: 46.40%

OOC: Bush/Powell vs Gore/Lieberman

Ford wins 8.35% of the time he's played on normal Tongue

And literally nobody has ever won as him on Hard or Impossible, though somebody did manage 266 EVs

Palmer's technical ceiling is 100 EVs and slightly more than 2 million PVs, though that can only happen when William Jennings Bryan is played on Impossible. In other words, Palmer can win everything under MO and to the left of NM.

Buchanan can win UT if Bush is played on Impossible, while Nader can win DC if Gore does the same.

And finally, still on Easy, 2012 with Obama...did nothing but campaign in North Carolina, Missouri, and Montana....ended up changing one state from the actual results.

Played as Wallace on Impossible; Illinois went for Nixon by 202 votes and gave him the election Sad

Played as Gore on Impossible and intentionally botched my chances. Managed to get Nader to win DC (which is very hard to do). I was also really close to setting a record by letting Nader win Rhode Island but Bush beat him by 172 votes Sad (there has never been a Nader win anywhere other than DC before)

Played as Nixon/Romney on Impossible. 2nd in both the popular and EV, but did manage to deadlock the college - Humphrey 247, Nixon 214, Wallace 77

I know. I won LA & MS, and I pushed AL's margin below 1.0%.

Humphrey on Normal:

http://www.americanhistoryusa.com/campaign-trail/game/44071

No majority in the Electoral College, but OH and CA went for Nixon by razor-thin margins and I got really unlucky with the last answer regarding the peace talks Sad

Won with Ford/Dole on Normal!
282-256. Basically surrendered the south to Carter and ran a New York focused campaign. It just barely paid off.

Game refused to give me a link for this, but I got this result with Ford/Baker on easy:

443-95 Ford, but still a 2 point loss in AL.
