While 350-360 is good it is probably disappointing as the Tories were expected to get any where between 395-405 when the campaign began , and 395-405 seats likely means the Tories would be safe for 10 more years, while with 350-360 its possible that they will lose next time.

big majorities don't guarantee success at the next election - if they went in to the next election with Major-level popularity levels then they'd struggle a lot.

Major's majority essentially evaporated during his term, correct?

Not neccesairly. Gordon Brown would be better off had he called snap election when he took over from Blair.

That would make the entire Britain and Ireland ruled by Indian heads of government.

Would May be the shortest PM in office ever?

Since Andrew Bonar Law in the 20s, yes.

George Canning's position is secured.

notice in 1992 and 2015 the exit poll predicted hung parliament yet tories won a narrow majority..

still shocked in a good way lol Tongue

Except back in 1992 there was a feeling Labour will win. Now, Tories underperformed severely, majority or not.

Theresa May gained 2,351,291 (9th biggest vote gain UK history)
Jeremy Corbyn gained 3,511,379 (4th biggest gain ever)

Which, given historical changes of population, is more or less just an interesting trivia picture.

It's amusing, though, Churchill lost the PV in all of three elections he contested, and still won one.
