I thought this might be a little interesting. I've counted all resignations as they were at the time of the last election and I've counted Sanders as a Democrat. The colour key is 30%=+1 seat, 40%=+2 seats and so on upto a margin of 7 seats or more which is 90%.

Partisanwise, yes, but not too different ideologically. All the Republicans in those states are pretty moderate.
