CNN saying that the FBI believes this is terrorism.

FBI confirms the sky is blue. Stay tuned.

Things that happen today, or happened on this day in history...

1. It's Patriots' Day

2. It's Tax Day

3. It's the anniversary of the start of the Civil War (when Lincoln sent troops to stop an armed insurrection)

4. It's the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's death

5. It's the 100th birthday of North Korea's founder

6. Two security guards were murdered in Massachusetts, and italian anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti would be executed for it amid much controversy.

Also, in 5 days or so, it's the anniversary of Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Hitler's birthday.

It's also the fall of Massada to the Romans, possibly as relevant as the above.

This is the first successful terrorist attack (not counting Fort Hood, which is debatable if it were terrorism or just a mass shooting by a nut job) since 9/11 when you give thought to it.

So... what distinguishes terrorism from mass shootings by nutjobs (that makes Fort Hood "arguably terrorism" but Tucson "just" a mass shooting)?

My brother and his girlfriend ran in the Boston Marathon today.  They crossed the finish line about 20 minutes before the explosion, and thankfully are unhurt.

Ugh, just learned of this while playing Skyrim for awhile... Sad

This definitely doesn't seem similar to most Islamist attacks. If it was Islamists, it was probably some small al-Qaeda wannabe group or individual, not anyone connected to anyone major. Extreme right wingers and/or white supremacists do seem a bit more likely...but we'll have to wait a bit to find out on that.

Obama saying not to speculate who did this, but we'll figure it out and get them

So weird to see the president talking about the people of my city the way presidents talked about the people of Oklahoma City, NY, Newtown.

Boston Globe saying 107 injured in 7 area hospitals, 2 are dead. Death toll looks stagnant, thank God.

Does anyone think there might be significance to the flags along the route at where the bomb was placed?  They both happened on the flag side of the street and in two locations distant from each other.  It could be they were both placed by two nations intentionally.

With no information, it might be worth checking out.

I absolutely thought the same thing. I was only able to identify the Domincan Republic and Spain from the raw video. Israel seemed to be in the vicinity.

The youtube feed opened early and you could hear who i'm assuming was Fox banging on about "another attack that the President failed to call terrorism".

I agree with this completely, and I would not be surprised if it were anarchists either.

Good statement from President Obama; I think he has handled this very well. I hope my side does not attack him unjustly like they did after Fort Hood.

As he walked out, reporters were yelling "was it terrorism?" At least two.
I totally forgot that it matters if he uses that term or not. Obviously "yes" but what that means right now could be anything.

Well mass gunshots are technically terrorist attacks you know. And you have these nearly every other week... Your argument is invalid.

Intent. Not at all saying that mass shootings are not bad, but would you consider Newtown a terrorist attack or just an evil act? Newtown, Tucson and Fort Hood were conducted by mentally ill individuals while this attack may (or may not) be a concerted effort by a person who knew what he was doing and why he was doing it. Just a quick thought on the definitions.

I love how some reporters think Obama's not calling what happened terrorism will somehow bring back the dead.

The only people are worse are the WBC people, who no doubt will be out in Boston next week at the scene blaming the gays.
